"Exiled from the exiled" sounds so sinister and hopeless. This was a refreshing read, acknowledging that humans will be humans no matter which side of an issue you fall on. If more of us were capable of seeing each other as human beings, rather than just an enemy, the world would be a better place.
I appreciate the nuance and the fact that you left the “issue” vague for us to fill in the blank. I’ve had an ongoing conversation with a friend who doesn’t see eye-to-eye with me on a lot of political issues, and yet we’re still able to keep things civil and be friends. We both agree that having those kinds of discussions with people is SO difficult these days, because so many of us are too ready to burn bridges.
Wherever humans go, they will take their human problems with them. The science fiction elements in this were awesome! Sadly, I can see how this scenario would be possible...
That this disagreement is mostly manufactured is infuriating. People buy into stuff as a tribal thing and don't even think through the implications of their asserted positions.
On the back of a work colleague asking why the characters were exiled, I'm writing a prequel that explains the mechanics of social manipulation. I hope it works as the tone is deliberately dry.
